Since its launch, google chrome is forbidden to be used in Sudan! you can not even download it or install it!!! a month ago, it is available to all Sudanese users. Do not think they change their mind, cause other services are still locked; but mostly they add tracing software to it; so if you have a good firewall and can manage your connections and IP well, go for it; otherwise keep away.
For me, it is not a good browser for me since it relay allot on caching; firefox is my solution so far.
Google Chrome
July 28th, 2009My 20th anniversary
May 22nd, 200920 years in the industry, in fact I still remember the first day in Elex -21st of May 1989; the company where I first learned computer programming. In those days we have Apple IIe computers with 56kb ram, mono-chrome monitors & no hard drives! We began on the CP/M operating system -this is before even DOS- and we write code in Basic & Cobol. Then we have a big leap working with C Language & DBase II, and newer versions of Cobol compilers. At that time we have to write down the code in the “Code sheets” and then in the computers; and do not say IDEs because they were not there at that time -we use simple text editors- after which we compile with line parameters and suffer to figure out what is wrong. I remembered when a Cobol program takes three days to figure an error which is a missed placed “point/period”.
believe me, what happened in the field in the 90s is very huge; we see many technologies that we never thought it may be possible to happen in both hardware & software. Most people could not believe that technologies like graphical operating systems have been working on it since the 70s. Thanks to guys Like Steven Paul Jobs, Peter Norton, Bill Gates and Paul Allen. And companies like IBM, Xerox, Borland, Ashton Tate and the others.
I always consider myself very lucky, but I think the most important thing that happened to me is the shift from trying to be a pilot to computers. Many thanks to Mr. Abdelrahman Yousif, Ustaz AbdAlla Alsoni (Allah Yarhamo), and all the guys whom they add to me allot in this journey.
Updates
May 22nd, 2009I do not know why did software vendors insists that their software check for updates on startup? this thing reduces the overall performance of the user’s pc and make him/her un-install the software at the first chance he/she found -thought the pc hangs most of the time.
Why they can not build up their software to wait tell all the services started and then check for updates? If they can add an option of manual update it will be an add.
What really bother me that big and small vendors get into this stupid mistake -specially in security software like anti viruses and firewalls – and no one seems to work on a solutions for it despite it is very simple!!!!!
Software development
May 15th, 2009Management guys are always but pressure on technical guys in software development by giving launch dates that they can not finish on it! Yes true, that is why “blue screens” showed up in most new software launches.
But it happens because management guys want to provide customers with solutions very quick to get money to pay the technical guys!! A paradox, isn’t it?
In my opinion, both technical & management guys must put near by features that they can provide to customers in the near future -the launch dates- then add more features later in added releases -as they do with service pack…..
In our company we do this & we provide our customers with free updates & added features; so it is a good marketing too.
